In 2018, the gross regional product of the Leningrad Region (GRP) amounted to 1,104.4 billion rubles, which forms 1.1% of the total Russian GDP. The GRP physical volume index in 2018 increased by 4.2%, which exceeds the average level in Russia (2.8% by 2018).

The bulk of the gross regional product (about 80% of the total) is created in the real sector of the economy, including industrial production (38.1% of GRP), construction (10.5%), transport (13.1%), in wholesale and retail trade (11.0%) and agriculture (4.9%).
