In 2018, by the type of activity “construction”, works were performed in the amount of 159.9 billion rubles, or 135.9% to the previous year.

In 2018, 50,954 apartments with a total area of 2,640.6 thousand square meters were commissioned (0.6% more than in 2017), of which: 2,605.5 thousand square meters (98.7% of the total commissioning) – by organizations of private form of ownership (including at the expense of citizens’ own funds and with the help of bank loans – 50,361 apartments, or 862.6 thousand sq. m), 10.2 thousand square meters (0.4% of the total commissioning) – state, 24.9 thousand square meters (0.9% of the total commissioning) – foreign.

The foreign trade turnover of the Leningrad Region in 2018 amounted to 11,224.9 million US dollars. Compared to 2017, foreign trade turnover increased by 21%. The value of exports of goods increased by 26%, the value of imports – by 15%. The share of foreign countries in the trade turnover for 2018 amounted to 94%. In the North-West Federal District, the Leningrad Region took the 2nd place in exports and the 3rd place in imports.

Trade operations were carried out with partners from 159 countries. The largest counterparty countries are China (15.6% of trade), the Netherlands (9.2%), Finland (7.4%), Germany (6.6%), the USA (5%) and Denmark (5%).

Exports (7,109.0 million US dollars) for 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 increased by 26%. The value of exports to the non-CIS countries increased by 27%, to the CIS countries – by 10.9%. Exports of goods to Turkey increased by 3.2 times (mainly due to increased exports of ferrous metals), to the Netherlands – 2.1 times (mainly due to increased exports of petroleum products).

The cost of exports to the non-CIS countries is 13.7 times higher than the cost of exports to the CIS countries. In 2018, participants of the foreign economic activity of the Leningrad Region exported goods to 134 countries of the world (in 2017 – to 129 countries).

Imports (4,115.9 million US dollars) in 2018, compared with 2017, increased by 14.8%. The cost of imports from foreign countries increased by 15.7%, from the CIS countries – decreased by 2.1%. Goods were imported from 123 countries (in 2017 – from 128 countries).

Imports from far-abroad countries amounted to 3,930.3 million US dollars (95.5% of imports of the Leningrad region). The most important counterparty countries by import: Germany (13.2%), China (11.7%), Finland (7.8%); Italy (7.5%), India (4.8%), France (4.7%), Taiwan (the PRC) (4.1%), the USA (3.3%), Brazil (3.1%), Vietnam (2.4%).

Imports from the CIS countries amounted to 185.6 million US dollars (4.5%). The main counterparty countries were: Belarus (2.3%) and Kazakhstan (1.7%).
