Drozdenko Alexander Yurievich

Governor of the Leningrad Region – Chairman of the Government of the Leningrad Region

Born on November 1, 1964 in the Dzhambul Region of Kazakhstan in a family of salaried workers. Higher Education. In 1986 he graduated from the Leningrad Agricultural Institute with a degree in Economics and Organization of Agriculture. In 2007 he was awarded the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.

After graduation he worked as an economist in the state farms of Kingiseppsky district of the Leningrad Region, from 1988 to 1993 he was the chief economist of Joint Stock Company «Agro-Balt». In 1991 he was elected to the Kingisepp City Council of People»s Deputies, since 1993 he has been its chairman.

In November 1993, he moved to the mayor»s office of Kingiseppsky District as deputy mayor, then vice mayor, and in 1996, mayor of Kingiseppsky District. In December 1996 he was elected as the head of the municipality «Kingiseppsky District», re-elected to this position in December 2000.

In November 2002, he was invited to work in the Government of the Leningrad Region, and was appointed Vice-Governor of the Leningrad Region – Chairman of the Leningrad Regional Committee on State Property Management.

In May 2012, the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region, on the recommendation of the President of the Russian Federation, was vested with the powers of the Governor of the Leningrad Region, on May 28, 2012, assumed the position of Governor of the Leningrad Region.

On May 12, 2015, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed a decree «On the early termination of the powers of the Governor of the Leningrad Region». Alexander Drozdenko was appointed acting Governor of the Leningrad Region.

At the early elections of the Governor of the Leningrad Region on September 13, 2015, Alexander Drozdenko received the support of 471 thousand 145 voters, which was 82.1% of the number of voters who took part in the elections. On September 30, 2015, the official inauguration ceremony of Alexander Drozdenko as Governor of the Leningrad Region took place.

On September 13, 2020, at the elections of the Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko received the support of 585 thousand 831 voters, which amounted to 83.61% of the number of voters who took part in the elections. On September 17, 2020, the solemn ceremony of the official inauguration of Alexander Drozdenko as Governor of the Leningrad Region took place.

Awarded with state awards: the Order of Friendship, a first-class medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland, a second-class medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland, the Order of Honor, a fourth-class medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland. 

He is married and has two daughters. He is fond of hunting and fishing.
